“Sworders shop in the 1970’s ( corner of High St with Heath Hill Rd.). There is a Buckler sports/racing car outside Bucklers old premises but Bucklers had packed up ten years before and their body maker Johnnie Offord had taken over the whole premises.” – Malcolm Buckler
Great photos, My dad worked for John Offord at these premisis during the 70s and early 80s, I to worked there every afternoon after school.
Great photo – I used to live in Crowthorne in the early 1980s but I don’t remember either Sworders or Buckler cars. My family moved to the town in May 1979 when I was 6, I guess too young to remember these places which is a pity. When did Sworders close? I can recall a fishmongers and butchers on High Street, and the lovely milk delivery carts – those were the days!
I grew up in Crowthorne and remember the open fire that was used in the shop in the 1960’s and 1970’s. Also the boxes of “spec fruit” that I enjoyed so much – and made fruit salads of.
